Keffa zone, in Ethiopia's southern nations, nationalities and people's region, grows one fifth of the country’s coffee, and has the same potential for quality we have come to expect from more established regions. We are excited to have found a coffee that showcases the region’s potential as we see it. Girma Eshetu is an impressive operation. It covers 200+ organic and utz certified hectares in Bita Genet district, at 1950-2150 MASL near the small village of Amecha Mechata. The farm is named after the farmer, Mr. Girma Eshetu, who pours over two decades of experience into his washed and natural processed coffees. Now in his fifties, Girma runs the estate with all the sophistication you’d expect from a multigenerational coffee family. His fields are planted with Jimma Research varietals (74110 and 74112 for those keeping score). His washed process includes a 40 hour ferment before a 24 hour soak, and the process on his naturals is pluperfect.
